Flat Bamboo Fan from Higo Variety Store

As temperatures soared this past week with record-breaking highs, we were all doing our best to beat the heat and stay cool. Here is a flat bamboo paper-covered fan used to keep cool on hot summer days. This particular hand fan from our collection was given out to customers from Higo Variety Store on Jackson Street in Seattle. Higo opened in 1932 and operated for 75 years selling imported household goods and foodstuffs. You can still see the Higo Variety Store sign on display on Jackson Street, where the KOBO gallery and store is today. How did you stay cool this past week?
