Cantonese Opera

On July 8th, 1963, a Cantonese Opera was performed by the Luck Ngi Music Association as a benefit for the Chong Wa Benevolent Association.

From the collection of John Woo, this photo shows the cast of the opera which includes Ping Chow (center) with his niece Kwi Pui Heong. John Woo is 3rd from the left.

Cantonese opera was an integral part of the Chinese community in Seattle first with touring troupes and then with established groups right here including the Luck Ngi which is still in around today.
