During a time filled with hate and blame towards a specific community, I reflect on how the Chinatown-International District has welcomed me, fed me, and shown me love. Sunday brunch might involve long lines but rarely are worth the wait like Dim Sum at Jade Garden Restaurant. As soon as you step inside, you already feel part of a family – maybe it’s proximity or maybe it’s the intimate act of sharing a meal – either way, there is a sense of comfort and warmth. That feeling carries over to their food! Dim Sum takes smaller plates that are delicious on their own, but when you combine them to form a full brunch – that is where the magical experience happens. I think of this through a metaphorical lens, we as individuals are all small plates but when we unite as a community then progress, change, and magic happen. I miss the food. I miss the people I used to share meals with there. I miss the sound of strangers laughing with their loved ones a table away. It is important that we unite and show this community love and feed their souls like they have fed our bellies.
